VISA 0100 Lottery Details
- Entering the VISA 0100
lottery constitutes a request for registration in the course. If a student
enters the lottery and is awarded a place, the registrar's office will
register the student for the course provided that doing so will not result
in enrolling the student beyond the maximum course load (5
courses) or result in a time conflict with another course for
which the student has registered. Once registered in VISA 0100, it
will be the responsibility of the student to drop the course if he or she
subsequently decides not to take it.
- If a student "wins"
a place in VISA 0100 but is already enrolled at the maximum course
load (5 courses) or is registered for another course that meets at the same time,
VISA 0100 will not be added to the student's schedule. The student will
be notified by email and given a limited amount of time to adjust his or her schedule.
Failure to make the change within the time allowed will result in the student's
forfeiting the spot in VISA 0100.
- Each student may enter
the lottery only once, but may state preferences for as many sections as
he or she wishes. When the lottery is conducted, highest priority will be
given to a student's first choice, next highest to their second choice, and
so on. Although it can be done, there is no value in entering the same section
more than once. If placement into a first-choice section is not possible,
placement into the same section will not be possible as a second choice either.
- Students should be careful
to enter their Banner ID numbers correctly. Although the number entered will be
validated for correct form when it is submitted, it will not be checked
to see if it matches an actual ID number in the Banner system
until the lottery is run. At the time the lottery is run, entries for ID
numbers that have no match in Banner will be discarded.
- In addition
to their ID numbers, lottery entrants are required to supply their birthdays.
The birthday will be used for validation purposes onlyto ensure that
the student ID number has been entered correctly. If the birthday entered
on the lottery form does not match the birthday on file in the student information
system, the entry will not be processed. Again, this validation does not
take place at the time the entry is submitted, so it is possible to successfully
submit an entry that will later be discarded because the information provided
does not match what is on file in the student system.
- The lottery will be
open only during the preregistration period. Students who wish to enter the
lottery must do so between 8:00 am, the first day of preregistraion and 5:00 pm, the final day of preregistration. There is no advantage to entering early with the possible exception
that last-minute attempts to enter may fail due to the vagaries of server connections.
